After the first failure, I deleted the game and downloaded again.
On the second try, I had the same problem. On the third try, I finally got all the pieces. The only thing I "might" have done differently is wait to feed the parrot until I had gone back to the other island, finished the owl puzzle and picked up the unicorn. Then I did the phone, jack-in-the-box,cookies to parrot, books, speaker gramophone , skull. The last two gramophone pieces finally did show up behind the parrot perch and in the seleton cabinet. It was a pain to repeat, but at least now I won't need to try to get my money back.

I reinstalled after deleting the game starting over and followed the instructions given in this thread to the letter and finally made it past this chapter. What I did was picked up all four pieces in the periscope first - making sure that the piece at the tunnel entrance was placed in the books.
That is where the game "glitched" before. I had picked up all 4 pieces but only 3 of them went into the proper items. I made sure I fed the parrot the cookie last! Make sure you have gone back and retrieved the unicorn before dialing the phone, etc. Hope this helps. On one hand I'm glad to know it's not just me.
