So sometime in August of , he asked his boss Bernie if he can do a program where he could read letters and give advice to listeners. Initially, Bernie was understandably hesitant. The idea was not aligned with the format of Talk shows and letter-readings were usually on AM and back then FM was mainly a music station.

But Bernie eventually said yes. He gave Joe a month to try it out. Needless to say, Love Notes became a big success, eventually spawning one of the most successful multi-media franchises in Philippine media which lasted over two decades. Joe also published his Love Notes advice column in the Manila Times, in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, and in several magazines for overseas Filipino workers.

This departure was confirmed through social media posts made by Twitter users who pour out tributes, and condolences to the family of the deceased. Today we are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear friend Joe Mango.

Joe was the lifeblood of our local Connecticut music scene for many years. He ran sound at BRYAC while all of us at some point or another were playing to maybe 5 people, and it always felt amazing because Joe was there making it sound great. Each night, regardless of the situation, he had a whimsical and brilliant introduction to proclaim.

He supported us and our other musical projects through the years, hosting us at his local festival Soupstock and providing advice on how to be a band.

We worked closely with Joe when crafting our In Ear Monitor system, which we use on the road wherever we go. Our hearts are with the family and friends of Joe Mango. Since our earliest shows at BRYAC, we have had the pleasure of experiencing his friendship and mentorship.

Joe was never one to hoard his heart, his knowledge, his jokes, or his bowls. He was one of the first people to show a genuine interest in our music and working together. His validation and appreciation was, and continues to be inspiring to us. Thank you, Joe, for connecting so many musicians and friends in our tiny little slice of life down here in CT. Rest easy, Joe, you are unbelievably missed.

Joe Mango and I used to say this whenever we saw each other. He started it. At the FTC as I recall and he was always pretty hilarious about it. I liked him immediately.
