Following the release of From the Moon to the Sun, Winger studied with Michael Kurek and composed a thirty-minute symphonic piece, "Ghosts", written for strings, piano and harp for a ballet commission. The work had its premiere with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra on November 14—15, Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon created the ballet "Ghosts", which premiered at the San Francisco Ballet on February 9, , with set design by Laura Jellinek, lighting design by M.

Geiger and costume design by Mark Zappone. The ballet was a hit and was brought back for a second season in In , Winger recorded their fifth studio album, Karma, which was hailed as their best record.

In September , it was announced that Winger would be reformed, with the Pull era line-up, to record the band's fourth studio album, IV, and to go on tour to support it. It was also confirmed that an anthology of rare tracks and early recordings, Demo Anthology would be released, as well as an autographed limited-edition album, Seventeen: The Demos, where only copies were made.

In Winger moved to Nashville, Tennessee and began working on his fourth solo record, From the Moon to the Sun , which he co-produced with Cenk Eroglu. Tragedy struck Winger in November when his first wife, Beatrice, was killed in an automobile accident. His first wife Beatrice Richter , whom he married in , died in a car accident in November The band Winger released three albums Winger , In the Heart of the Young , and Pull before moving on to solo careers.

Kip Winger's first commercial break came in , when he co-wrote a song for Kix's third album, Midnite Dynamite. During that time he was working closely with the record producer Beau Hill, recording bass and vocals on various records. This is like heavy metal. I can do this. He struck platinum out of the gate. You are gone. And then things went from bad to devastating: In , his wife, Beatrice, died in a car accident. If anyone had reason to make choking on bitterness his next career move, it was Kip Winger. The work was steady though. Winger also started studying classical composition in earnest. We have an uncanny kind of musical rapport. He remarried in , and he reactivated his band in He tours both with his band and as a solo artist. After promoting Conversations With Nijinsky, he intends to follow up with another classical project and is preparing to write a new Winger album with longtime guitarist Reb Beach.

He must have loved her a lot because he agreed, and it introduced him to ballet, which entranced him. He tried his hand at it and, as he says, in another life, he could have been a very good danseur. The early exposure to the complexity of the music that accompanied ballet performances would surface again much later in life.

While playing bass for Alice Cooper and then on into his years leading Winger, he kept listening to classical pieces. He tried his hand at writing a piece and sent it to English choreographer Christopher Wheeldon.

Wheeldon liked what he heard but felt it was too short to use. The encouragement was all Kip needed. He created a lengthier arrangement and sent this along to Wheeldon once again, who loved it. Plans were made to create a Broadway musical around the work, but Covid put a crimp in that plan for now. So Kip Winger adapts and moves on.
