Adding brick or cinder block to a home is a labor-intensive ordeal, but the advantages are worth it. Being practically indestructible is the best advantage. Concrete panels are easier to install but have similar indestructibility and longevity as brick and cinder block.

There are companies that specialize in concrete skirting but you can purchase precast concrete panels, too. FHA loans require that all manufactured homes be permanently installed but that has little to do with the skirting material. A manufactured home can be permanently installed and have vinyl skirting.

Permanent installation is all about the tie-downs and foundation, not the skirting. Metal can be steel or tin. Both are great products that are affordable. Simple installation is an added advantage. You can also attach the top of the panel to your home via attached board or straight to the frame and then dig a channel in the ground and backfill the ditch. These days the designs for metal mobile home skirting are getting more attractive, too. The old cinder block or large brick stamped pattern has been the most popular design but with a little research, you can find new patterns.

Metal mobile home skirting can be easily painted. Metal can withstand a weed eater which is always a plus. Insulated mobile home skirting has made headlines lately but it may not be the best place to spend your money.

Therefore, you may be better off spending the money on insulating the floor of the home, not the skirting. You can get complete framing solutions that act like frames but have channels to put the foams into.

Most suppliers recommend this. The installation kits depend on the linear foot needed. You can learn about the installation process of insulated skirting here.

Wood has always been a well-known construction material. Wood is susceptible to rot and insects and soaks water up quickly. Hardiboard and OSB are very sturdy. OSB is cut with the trees grain and the engineered together to make a very strong product. Wood products that are not waterproof are going to get swelling from moisture. Price depends on what you chose and installation can be simple or complicated. Some people suggest that you use a sealer and caulk the ends of the boards before putting them up just as an added precaution against moisture.

You can use planks and get the look of siding, too. Lots of potential with wood! The sky is the limit when it comes to skirting materials for mobile homes. Of course, the materials listed above is probably your best bet you can save money by thinking out of the box. Perhaps you could reuse material or keep construction scraps out of the landfill.

For example, a damaged metal roof panel could become a nice access panel for your skirting. One of our featured homes has antique barn tin as a skirting , and it is gorgeous! Really, you could use just about anything that is weather resistant and rigid. Keep flame retardancy in mind before you decide to use a unique material. Your local mobile home supply store should be the best place. Best of luck! I had the winterized skirting put on my mobile home this summer. The skirting that was on it before was damaged but I could easily remove a panel here and there to get under the mobile home. I am hoping that this will prevent freezing of my pipes because last winter I had several.

Please advise thank you. However, all skirting should have an access door and vents that open and close open for summer, closed for winter. The formula is 1 square foot of vent per every square foot of floor space.

Also, an access door is needed for quick repairs. Otherwise repairmen will damage the expensive skirting to get under the home and it may not be easy to fix. I bought an older double-wide that was pit set and back-filled. The skirting was not supported correctly and my landscaping is now sliding under my home. What is the most economical way to rectify this situation? You could use pressure-treated 2x4s or go with the more expensive metal studs they use for framing now.

If you could cement that frame into the ground a bit it would probably hold for many years. Hi, Great article! I would rather use some sort of metal framing rather than wood as it would rot etc. What would the metal pieces be called? To make a pleated skirt , start by measuring your waist and skirt length and cutting the fabric to your measurements.

Next, decide on the size of your pleats and mark them on your fabric. Then, fold and pin the pleats , making sure they're all going in the same direction. If you are planning a very full skirt or train add two yards. For long sleeves, add two yards , one for each sleeve. Any kind of fancy seaming, like pleats will add at least two yards. If the fabric is not plain and has a printed design, add an extra yard per 5 yards , just in case.

Once you' ve cut your length of fabric, mark the seam allowance on each side, and start pleating from there. Most 8ft rectangle tables are 8ft by 30 inches wide therefore to ensure you have the proper amount of skirting to cover your entire table you need a tableskirt that is at least 21 ft long.

You will need a tablecloth to go under the skirting, polyester, satin, or shantung silk are generally the most popular. Most table skirts come with a strip of Velcro along the top backing. Table skirts are the material which is used for the sides of your table to help it look more beautiful and complete.

Its main purpose is to hide the legs of the table and they do this by covering them completely with their cloth. Box pleat table skirts are used to give table skirting the most luxurious look for the most elegant functions.

Always try and use cold water with mild detergent. None of us are perfect, but we all owe it to ourselves to strive to improve. That's really all we can ask of ourselves, and all that anyone can ask of us. I used to be like you… Then I discovered Ms Riggs! Haha… I have less clothes now, but a whole lot of compliments. I have way more than that. However, I am paring down. I can't wear the same pieces all year long — the weather here varies so much. Also, I have two jobs — one that requires more formal clothes than the other.

So I have a small wardrobe for that one modeled on your French 12 piece plus 5. And more for weekends, evenings kicking around, etc. And out of season stuff is all stored. Because I just started this, I have alternates in case I picked wrong. So far I have only replaced one piece since I started two months ago because I didn't like it, and I got one new piece that I swapped out for an old one that worked well but was getting worn. So I guess I have about…. But I also have more —I am excited about this.

Because of the weather I have alternates in the same colors! I have light blue capri jeans, but also light blue shorts; a short-sleeved eyelet shirt and a long-sleeved eyelet shirt.

So I have outfits that go together whether it's heat wave or a cool snap. Gail Finke. Sorry but Google now will not let me use my name! We'll see as I've only been doign this for 6 months. I forgot that I also have a few dresses for church or going out. It's been interesting to find what I really like wearing and what I don't out of these limited combination, and with these small for me numbers there will still be things I purge at the end of summer because I didnt' wear them.

I have always disliked my summer clothes and thought I had nothing and looked good in nothing. I have a small wardrobe but like everything in it and feel good in it. What a change. But I think that while 73 might work for some, it doesn't for me. And if you do Project , you will have more than your ideal unless some are the same pieces for each season. I think that number is more doable for someone with varied weather and varied activities.

That leaves me only 3 workdays to play around… I'd like to wear dress on Tuesday and rotate it once every 4 weeks. That means I'll need… 4 dresses. On Wednesday, it'll be the skirt and blouse, Thursday, pants and blouse. The tops and bottoms can be alternated of course. How often would I want to wear the same top or bottom? Once every 2 weeks? So I'll need a minimum of… 4 tops and 4 bottoms? Am I failing my Maths? I want another pair… white strappy heels!!!

I need to find two more. I have pink shirt, white shirt, grey shirt, purple shirt I have blue cropped pants, grey cropped pants, white straight cut, black flare coming soon. But, alas, I'm greedy. I'm on the hunt for fitted shirt short sleeve and a box pleated midi skirt cotton sheen navy. This is brilliant but I'm going to need a tutor to help me work it out, I'm not the sharpest tool in the box! I love this. I am trying to reduce my wardrobe.

I live in an old house with small closets and things need to be kept in them other than clothes! On the other hand we go from hot summers to extremely cold winters here in NH… Thank you for a new way to think about it all!

Id like to know how many times on average most people can wear an article of clothing before it becomes too worn looking to keep? For myself I find that shirts wear out much more quickly than pants.

I don't understand the people who call clothes an investment since you pay money for them and then wear them ideally until they are worn out. I like to get one wear per dollar spent or better. Any input? Given the range of activities that you have in your life, I think you're going to come out on the high end of the range; even though you live in a pretty stable climate, if you travel, you're still going to maybe?

I'm having fits with getting emails sent when I post, and there's apparently no solution in the world…. Start around 35, and see if you feel comfortable with that number. There's no point in going through this exercise if you're uncomfortable with the final result — the whole reason we try to come up with a number is to give ourselves a limit within which we can work that requires discipline, but that allows pleasure!

Hi Janice—I've been following for a long time and have so appreciated your posts. Yes, I've been happy with the choices I've made in my wardrobe what I've kept, what I've gotten rid of and now I realize that I can really, truly stop shopping.

What a thought! I'm 50 and have been a clothes horse since I was sixteen. I have made plenty of dumb moves, yes, but I also have shirts from JCrew that are 25 years old and still in my rotation and a few which my kids wear for sleep shirts! I think we all know that less is more and quality will always outlast cheap and any in-and-out-fad. We will always need to customize of course, but guidelines help so much.

And to all fellow travellers—isn't it heaven to travel light!? My family of four travel exclusively with carry-ons only. Layering is key and always have flip flops for those hotel rooms! Love all of these comments. I, however am very much of a minimalist. I have owned a piece wardrobe in the past and found it completely overwhelming….. Very simple way I reduced to pieces: Empty your amoir or closet completely and store everything in a separate closet…, Then every time you wear something, if you love it, move it to the new space.

In 30 days….. You are done. Get rid of the excess, save any special occasion stuff you know you will wear and that FITS! You can do this each season if necessary. Easy and simple and I'm left with what I love! This seems so simple and doable.

I have a strong feeling that I would be super happy with the results. Did you do it four times—once for each season? Did you do it for outerwear and accessories?
