Why hogwarts was all in harrys head

But it takes a LOT of effort to actively construct a narrative in which this is the case, because you have to come up with exactly what was going on at the time, if none of the magic and Hogwarts stuff was real. What happened in the third book, when Harry ran away from home? If we assume that he really was abused, then running away is a logical response to that, but what about everything which happened afterwards with the Knight Bus and the Leaky Cauldron?

And what on earth do we think was happening to Harry for the extensive periods of time that he was apparently lost in this fantasy world? His escapist fantasy has no need to conform to logic of any kind. You are commenting using your WordPress. You are commenting using your Google account. You are commenting using your Twitter account. Rowling tweeted about it on her social media. His father was a Prefect and far more inclined to follow the rules than the other Marauders. That said, there is a good chance Teddy had a rebellious streak too due to the nature of his mother. Sadly, Teddy was left out of Cursed Child and didn't get as much backstory as the other post- Deathly Hallows children. Bill is the eldest and "coolest" Weasley brother out of the sizeable redheaded family.

We don't know very much about how Bill acted while he was at Hogwarts, but we do know that he achieved more than ten Outstanding O. He managed to become a Prefect and eventually a Head Boy, which speaks to his character. Plus, his devotion to caring for others and going on adventures helped make him into a skilled wizard after his graduation.

Sadly, Bill was irreparably injured by the cruel werewolf, Fenrir Greyback, and received some brutal scarring across his face during the Battle of the Astronomy Tower in the sixth book. Although he persisted in fighting alongside the Order of the Phoenix, proving his nobility. James Potter has a massive presence in the Harry Potter series despite never appearing in the present.

As the father of Harry, he died not long after Harry was born due to the evil agenda of Lord Voldemort. Everything Harry learns about James is secondhand, and therefore it is for us readers too, beyond a visit to the Pensieve.

Speaking of the Pensieve, it revealed that James could be unnecessarily cruel to people like Severus Snape. James bullied Snape frequently and was known for being arrogant. Eventually deflated his ego a bit and even managed to make Head Boy. But due to how mischevious he was with his friends Sirius, Lupin, and Peter, it's hard to imagine he was as diligent as someone like Hermione Granger. We know that Tom Marvolo Riddle eventually evolves into the most dangerous dark wizard of all time, aka Lord Voldemort.

Before he took the final step into madness, Riddle was an excellent student at Hogwarts. All of his professors were fond of him, and he excelled in his studies. He also lives in a tiny cupboard underneath the stairs.

To get any closer to the textbook definition of child abuse, you'd have to start punching kids yourself. Harry is checked on by secret owl social workers. Also, Harry's aunt and uncle literally refuse to acknowledge him as a human being for most of his childhood. That's emotional neglect , which is good enough for jail time in most states. Even if 99 percent of what they say is stupid, you still can't just pretend your kids don't exist without the authorities intervening at some point.

Just when the abuse and neglect are getting to be too much, Harry Potter is saved by a giant man on a magical flying motorcycle. This man takes Harry away to a place where he is wealthy, has tons of friends and can make snakes burst forth from the anus of any soul who dares to cross him. Oh, he's also the best Quidditch player ever and a magician the likes of which are only seen performing levitation tricks on the streets of Las Vegas.

A lucky break for a kid who needed one desperately? Perhaps, but the more likely explanation for this turn of events is that Harry Potter is coping with his abusive home life by escaping into a fantasy world.

It's been documented that victims of abuse can escape into an alternate reality of sorts for years at a time when trying to deal with an abusive situation. We accept that this is the far more depressing of the two options, but does it really make less sense than a homeless wizard on a flying motorcycle? Now this is where things get weird. Throughout the series, Harry is sent to the school hospital no less than six times. Not only does that far outpace any reported ER visits by his classmates, but his injuries stand out as well.
