A research team from John Hopkins University designs microdevices that can deliver medicine. He began to count his strokes; he could do possibly a hundred more and then It's a high-protein, flour-like ingredient that contains 50 percent protein content, 5—10 percent fat, and 20—25 percent carbs. This may involve some form of danger, but it can also be an inner experience for a character as well.
Think of it like baseball: as exciting as it is when the batter hits the ball, the real suspense happens in the moments that immediately follow the sound of the crack, when leather meets wood.
The famous hunter hence becomes the hunted. The couple asks for the check. It means that writers need to put those characters in positions where they might fail over and over again. Nothing against police procedurals. I just prefer watching them to reading them. Yet what Claire Mackintosh does with her twist was a revelation to me as a reader and as a writer.

First and foremost, it keeps us guessing. It keeps us questioning and challenging what we understand about the characters and the word in which they live.

It means a writer must involve the reader at every level, and he or she can do that through the medium of description. Description creates a vivid picture for the reader, it allows them to open a gateway to your story and imagine themselves within your fictional world. You as a writer can elicit emotions within your reader, you create tension and atmosphere, and you create a sense of immediacy — a sense of being right there with the character.

They assume they have to work to a strict template of X amount of words and X amount of chapters, usually because most novels have around 30 or 40 chapters and around 80, words.
Again, the story will dictate how long the novel will be. Uncomplicated stories containing minimal characters tend to be short — usually around 20, to 60, words. These are called novellas. Longer, more complex stories, which contain a handful of main characters and periphe.
May 21, In creative writing, however, there is good repetition and bad repetition. Repetition can and does work. The above opening paragraph uses repetition effectively. It is there to reinforce the message and provide and subtle way of denotative resonance.
This is an example of good repetition. We wonder through every second of the dinner conversation. Will the bomb go off? Will the couple discover it and escape its blast? I think of surprise and suspense like my two favorite flavors of ice cream. Suspense is a deep, dark, intense chocolate. It permeates your senses and triggers your pleasure centers, melting in a slow release of delicious tension. Surprise, on the other hand, is like the strawberry. It smacks you broadside with a burst both tart and sweet.
Sometimes leaving behind a sticky mess. But use the surprises sparingly, as too many will dilute their effect. Feel free, however, to slather on the suspense. In Suspense Thriller, Paul Tomlinson points out that the chase and escape scenes provide the same kind of thrill we got as kids from playing a game of tag or hide and seek.
And clandestine, secret actions are intrinsically exciting. When I was in elementary school, my best friend lived around the corner and my biggest thrill came from sneaking down the alley and darting bush to tree in order to reach her house without anyone seeing me.
Or so I imagined. We get a workout for the mind, and a reinforcement of values we hold dear, such as life, liberty, and justice.
We can even get a heightened sense of community and a cleansing emotional discharge. All of which also create four unexpected benefits of reading thrillers. But in order for this to happen, you need to provide the sort of foundation where suspense can begin and build.
You need to draw your readers deeply into the story world and make sure they care about what happens to your protagonist. How about you? Do you see how curiosity, surprise, and suspense move you forward through the stories you read?
